This melting pot of a country was an ideal choice for a fresh traveler like myself. The most obvious trait of the city state was that its population spoke English. Still, backpacking was not without its challenges. I recalled recklessly jumping off a midnight bus, and nearly getting hit with incoming traffic. Another challenge was a rookie traveler mistake of not bringing enough cash. Fortunately, the hostel helped me out!

 

Singapore prides itself in hosting attractions that are the biggest or first of anything, like indoor skydiving spaces, night safaris, and more. However, the most spectacular moment took place at the peak of the observatory wheel. The city lights were stunning against the night sky, and I realized just how proud I was to travel abroad by myself for the very first time.
