LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM

Compared to other cultures, the British have a long history. Participating in all the free tours offered, I had a chance to get a glimpse into this multicultural society.

Britain's diversity is marked by its international cuisine. Aside from its fish and chips, London's foods come from all over the world, especially India. I'll never forget the crisp richness of London's samosas.

Because of Britain's diversity, I was shocked and hurt to experience racism on multiple occasions during my stay. I was informed that due to Brexit, racism had soared in the country.

Aside from those challenging experiences, I was thrilled that London was the international capital of Harry Potter. Even late at night on a weekday, there was a line of fans waiting to pay for a photo shoot at Platform 9 and 3 Quarters. Outside the Underground, I had a chance to see the inspiration for Diagon Alley, the Ministry of Magic, and other scenes from Harry Potter.

My other favorite was the Jack the Ripper tour. The serial killer brutally murdered several women, and I had the opportunity to listen to possible theories. Who did it? Why did it happen? Even when the guide graphically told the horror stories, she made sure to honor the lives of the victims. It was especially exciting to take the tour late at night.
