Unlike other destinations, Africa is not for the faint of heart. Everyday is a battle against inflated prices on public transportation and goods, deadly diseases carried by mosquitos, and dangerous terrorism.

 

Regardless of Africa's numerous obstacles, visiting this majestic continent will lead you to a much greater appreciation for what you have. Many locals are incredibly poor. When I visited in July 2015, the currency exchange rate was 100 Kenya Shillings to $1 USD!

 

If you are able to overlook the hardships of budget traveling in Africa, you will appreciate the unparalleled beauty of this continent's nature and wildlife. In the Masaai Mara, wildebeest migrate across crocodile-infested waters. I had the privilege of watching them make their trek on a 3-day safari.
